This thread will be for articles (both new and old) on Egypt, mainly analysis and opinion. Everyone is encouraged to contribute; when you post a link to an article in the main news thread, consider placing it here as well. Please provide a short summary (or except) and a link to the article. Each article should be in its own thread and folks are encouraged to give their views on all articles in the same thread.

Feb. 11: Egypt's Military Backs Transfer of Power to Vice President

Egypt's military has endorsed the transfer of powers from embattled
President Hosni Mubarak to Vice President Omar Suleiman and called for a
return to normal life in the Egyptian capital, wracked for 18 days by
anti-Mubarak demonstrations. Link: http://www.voanews.com/english/news/middle-east/Egypt-Protest-Organizers-Promise-Largest-Protests-Yet-115866209.html

Feb. 9: Creative Destruction for a ‘Greater Middle East’? – F. William Engdahl

Fast on the heels of the regime change in Tunisia came a popular-based
protest movement launched on January 25 against the entrenched order of
Egypt’s Hosni Mubarak. Contrary to the carefully-cultivated impression
that the Obama Administration is trying to retain the present regime of
Mubarak, Washington in fact is orchestrating the Egyptian as well as
other regional regime changes from Syria to Yemen to Jordan and well
beyond in a process some refer to as “creative destruction.”

Feb. 9: Egypt: What’s Really Happening? Listen to the Globalists

A great debate is going on amongst honest commentators over what is
actually happening in Egypt. The debate stems from the horribly
inaccurate information being supplied by the globalist owned mainstream
media.

Feb. 11: Crisis Flummoxes White House

WASHINGTON—The defiant tone taken by Egyptian President Hosni
Mubarak—and widespread confusion about the meaning of his speech—had
White House officials stumbling for their next step in a crisis that was
spinning out of their control.

Thanks friend. It's a bit selfish too. I want to be able to find these easily later and am also curious about other folks' take on these articles (some are going to be contradictory of each other, which I think is not a bad thing).

Feb. 11: How The Mubarak Family Made Its Billions

NEW YORK -- In his first speech to the country, the new president of
Egypt promised "not to commit myself to what I cannot implement, hide
the truth from the people, or be lenient with corruption and disorder."

That was Hosni Mubarak in 1981, taking the reins of his proud country
in the wake of Anwar Sadat's assassination and expressing a
determination to steer Egypt in a new direction.

Feb. 10: Mubarak Refuses to Step Down

Cairo - President Hosni Mubarak told the Egyptian people Thursday that
he would delegate more authority to his vice president, Omar Suleiman,
but that he would not resign his post, contradicting earlier reports
that he would step aside and surprising hundreds of thousands of
demonstrators gathered to hail his departure from the political scene.

The Egyptian military has secretly detained hundreds and possibly
thousands of suspected government opponents since mass protests against
President Hosni Mubarak began, and at least some of these detainees have
been tortured, according to testimony gathered by the Guardian.

Feb. 11: The Founding Fathers Would Be Proud of the People of Egypt ... And Disgusted With the People of America

America's founding fathers stood up for their freedom, winning it from the British (with the help of the French). The
Egyptian people have stood up for their freedom, winning it from the
Mubarak dictatorship (with the help of the army, which refused to fire a
shot at the people, and may even have helped convince Mubarak to leave.
See this and this).

Feb. 11: Wael Ghonim of Google plays an integral part in ElBaradei’s bid to seize power

As many honest people are still confounded over the true nature of the
Egyptian protesters occupying Cairo’s Tahrir Square, yet another hero
lifted up by the globocrat controlled mainstream media has turned out
to be linked, knowingly or unknowingly, to a foreign plot.

Feb. 6: The shaping of a New World Order

The following description, I believe, sums up what Egypt faces today as well as, if not better, than most:
"It is not a revolution, not in the literal sense of the term, not a
way of standing up and straightening things out. It is the insurrection
of men with bare hands who want to lift the fearful weight, the weight
of the entire world order that bears down on each of us - but more
specifically on them, these ... workers and peasants at the frontiers of
empires. It is perhaps the first great insurrection against global
systems, the form of revolt that is the most modern and the most insane.

Feb. 10: The Lessons of the Egyptian Revolution for People Throughout the World

The courage of the Egyptian protesters - even in the face of extreme
police brutality - is obviously a large part of why the Egyptians
succeeded in kicking Mubarak out of office.Indeed, I think that
the Egyptians adopted the tactics of Gandhi and Martin Luther King, Jr.,
to great effect. They were peaceful in the face of murder and
brutality by Mubarak's thugs, which discredited Mubarak in the eyes of
the world.

Feb. 11: Now See The 11 Countries At Risk Of Becoming The Next Egypt

The Egyptian revolution is a challenge to state led authoritarian
capitalism, but it is also a response to rising food costs and soaring
unemployment. There is also the social media factor, which has allowed
protesters to circumvent traditional state run media sources and
organize more efficiently.

Dont believe it. Egypt is way too big, a cauldron of discontent. Even if they tried, they are finding out they cant control it. Mexico is an example where they have applied a formula as successful as they can. But even that is only a temporary victory. We know that, they know that.

Flour is the mainstay of their diet. Obviously they have to replace the strawberries they grow in the Delta for export to Europe, with wheat. Cash crops are disasterous for a country like Egypt. The priority is feeding not squeezing the people, so that instead of a few getting rich throwing crumbs to the rest, agriculture can be directed at the nutrition of the populace.

"Tunisia Casts Shadow Over Arab Summit"

Moussa resigned today, has his eyes on the Egyptian Presidency? Too connected with all his diplomat positions, old guy from the old school of governing.
Egypt is ready for its young leaders.

Hi friend! I do hope that you are right and Egypt does seem different. But we need to always keep a very close eye on the politicians/banksters/elites who do not have our best interests in mind. And what they want more than anything right now is WW3. Mubarak was resisting and that is why the let him go. But things didn't quite go as they wanted/expected. Question: will they work behind the scenes to undermine the Egyptian revolution? That is the big question.

Very well-said friend. And that will become a big issue right here in the US. Just watch. The elites could not care less about us eating. BTW, I have all kinds of heirloom seeds I plan to grow. Not counting on anything.
