I have been meaning to let this be said since this cr...no, revolution started. If I could I would head on a plane and assist in any way I could with the revolution happening in Egypt right now! I know I am an american citizen....but more importantly I am a human being (and a Virgo to boot). I fully support those that are oppressed and persecuted and I give all the help I can to those that fight for their right to free themselves from tyranny such as Mubarak's!!

Hmm..I don't know. I heard of US Carriers going through Gibraltar to be in the Mediterranean, I think that's not really anything unusual. Also, they do frequent war games in this area too. I know "Bright Star" happens every year (US and Egypt war games), but that I think is scheduled in a few months. I will call somebody tomorrow and see what I can find out.

For now wouldn't put too much weight on this report or be too alarmed. Nothing unusual for them to be there, and yes, could be to just be there in case something bad happens and they need to evacuate their citizens here (there's still alot of personnel, military, expats, embassy staff and so on...). Not everybody left. Just ran into 2 Americans today at the supermarkets who decided to stay despite everything.

Will be interesting to get Janey's and Muh's take on this though. Although, the other option is they will take a certain someone on a nice retirement cruise in the Med?

Tricky situation. The peace treaty does ask for no military of either side to be on the peninsula, however Egypt has a valid reason to protect their territory against saboteurs, Bedouins are a threat. Mostly they are concerned also about the tourism industry and they want to ensure their safety. With the questionable pipeline explosion, I can see how they would want to send more troops to secure the area. But of course Israel is still paranoid about Egypt starting a war with Israel. MB will NOT take over and even in the unlikely event that they did, are at no point interested in a war with Israel. They are not stupid. Israel's army is very strong, also, it would not benefit the country at all. The goal here is to make Egypt better, not start a war. MB has said that even over and over again. I think 90% of egyptians would leave their country if that happens as nobody wants a war with Israel. That's what I gather from here.

The majority of Egyptians consider Israel an enemy and do not want the peace treaty. That's why it's taken a dictatorship for the peace treaty to remain effective. There's a good chance what we are seeing in Egypt has a lot to do with a future war with Israel. Bear in mind that the Egyptian military continues to prepare and train for a war with Israel, particularly in recent years. Why is that?

I wouldn't call it the majority of egyptians really. The key is to get the right people in power, that's what we're all hoping for. Otherwise, goodbye Egypt! The country will not survive a war with Israel and I think the smart people know this. So lets get a smart real democrat in there, that's what they're working on at least.
