Libyans Articles
There are so many articles coming about Libya coming from the press now that I thought like Egypt we would start one here.
The difficulty of reporting from inside Libya
Reporting from Libya is tricky at the best of times - clearly, the situation there right now is anything but.
For 41 years, Muammar Gaddafi - the self-proclaimed "Brotherly Leader and Guide of the Revolution" - has made life difficult for the Western media. While British nationals can enter many of the world's 192 countries without visas, or collect them on arrival, Libya is one of the exceptions. There, the door is firmly shut to international journalists, local reporters face intimidation and the threat of worse. It explains why, in contrast to recent events in Tunisia, Egypt and Bahrain, we're unable to report from inside Libya on the protests taking place there, and the authorities violent response.
And that's an uncomfortable place for us to be.

Re: Libyans Articles
Colonel Gaddafi the ultimate survivor
During 40 years of dictatorship, Colonel Muammar Gaddafi has dragged Libya into international isolation and back.
To become Africa and the Arab world's longest-serving ruler has required great survival skills and a brutal regime.
The protests on the streets of Benghazi represent the greatest challenge to his rule.
But Libya-watchers say an Egypt-style nationwide revolt is unlikely because Gaddafi has oil cash to smooth over social problems, and is still respected in much of the country.
Gaddafi has traditionally had less support in the eastern region around Benghazi than in the rest of the oil-producing nation, and the city has been the scene of violence in the past.

Libya's Gaddafi faces fight of life, Bahrain offer snubbed
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Reuters) - Two of the Middle East's most entrenched rulers were battling to stay in power on Saturday amid reports of dozens of protesters killed in Libya and an offer of talks by Bahrain's king being rebuffed.
Unrest has spread from Tunisia and Egypt to Bahrain, Libya, Yemen and Djibouti, presenting the United States with the dilemma of maintaining stability in the oil-rich region while upholding the right to demonstrate for democratic change.
Libyan security forces killed 35 people in the eastern city of Benghazi late on Friday, Human Rights Watch cited witnesses and hospital sources as saying, in the worst violence of Muammar Gaddafi's four decades in power.

Gadhafi's son warns of civil war in Libya
CAIRO — The son of longtime leader Moammar Gadhafi warned in a nationally televised address that continued anti-government protests that have wracked Libya for six days might lead to a civil war that could send the country's oil wells up in flames.
Appearing on Libyan state television after midnight Sunday, Seif al-Islam Gadhafi said the army still backed his father, who was leading the fight, although he added that some military bases, tanks and weapons had been seized.

Dozens of people were reported killed in Tripoli overnight as anti-government protests reached the Libyan capital for the first time and the building where the country's parliament meets was ablaze today.
One of Muammar Gaddafi's sons said the veteran leader would fight the popular revolt that has shaken his 40-year rule until "the last man standing".

Re: Libyans Articles
I first posted this under the rolling thread, but then realized it should have gone here.
Off topic, but very ironic. Last Sunday Ghaddafi urged Arab world to revolt against Israel saying this is a time of revolutions.
