Journalists solve Bjelovar fireball mystery (Croatia)
The mysterious ball of fire that was spotted near Bjelovar and which has had Croatians huddle in fear of possible alien attacks, has turned out to be the work of a thrifty farmer burning up some grass.
Darko Hresic was first to start the panic when he saw flames hurl through the sky near the northern Croatian town of Bjelovar some days ago. Many racked their brains trying to figure out where the strange fireball could have come from - some suggested that it was a comet, but others did not rule out the possibility of an alien attack.
But journalists of the Croatian daily Jutarnji List may have solved the mystery. They spoke with Marin Kiselic from a nearby village who told them that the mysterious object sawing panic was just a patch of burning grass caught by the wind.
"What fireball! What aliens! Those are all just stupidities," he said.
"I had no time to mow these fields so I decided to simply set them on fire because that is cheaper," said Marin, laughing.
He added that there still remain quite some patches to be burned, so there might be more fireballs in the upcoming days.
