Award-winning journalist Arnaud de Borchgrave tells Newsmax that the increasingly volatile situation in the Middle East could push the price of oil quickly to $300 or even $400 a barrel.
Such a price would mean a gallon of gasoline costing as much as $15 at American pumps, perhaps higher depending on local, state and federal taxes, according to analysts interviewed by Newsmax.
De Borchgrave, who has interviewed Moammar Gadhafi six times, also says the Libyan leader is manic-depressive who is going through a manic phrase where he is “taking on the world.”
ironically, we already pay $15 a gallon here in the UK, so rises like that would see us close to $60 a gallon here!

According to Al Hurra TV, son of Gaddafi, Saif ul Arab, who was sent by his father to suppress the protesters in the east region of Libya, joined the revolutionists.
Saif ul Arab having combat troops and millitary equipments that was sent to the region joined the protestors.
He also added: My father (Moammar Ghaddafi) would commit suicide or flee to Latin America.

From a Shia newspaper, have no idea if any of this is true BUT
If Gadhafi hasn't committed suicide by the middle of March he can catch up with Obama in Latin America during his visit there. lol
Imagine another one of Obama's trips being canceled because one of the countries he's scheduled to visit took Gadhafi in?

I'm worried about if he used such weapons on foreign forces if there would be nuclear retaliation in response
No way. It would be easy enough to thoroughly destroy his minions conventionally.
absolutely no chance of any nuclear response. As said, there is no need for one. Conventional firepower can deal with this. There is no way any allied nations would blow nuclear fallout across North Africa taking out millions of people including their own nationals.

De Bourchgrave is one of my longtime favorites and a heckuva fine novelist as well as analyst.
From the above-linked article:
“Libya supplies around 74 percent of Europe’s oil and if that is cut, which it could very well be in the next few days, oil will be spiking again.”

Actually it wouldn't be that bad, since part of the reason for the big UK price is fixed taxes which wouldn't increase proportionally. It would still be very bad, of course.
But there must be a misquote in that article, no way Libyan oil accounts for 74 percent of European consumption.
