There are indeed plans to establish a no fly zone within Libya, using US, UK and other NATO air assets. If this goes ahead tonight (and it looks likely) then the joint air taskforce WILL take down any Libyan aircraft that attempts to get airborne. This clears the way for phase 2. There is a phase 3 also once evacuations are done.
This is very bad, because 99% of the libyan air force have defected to the people, and one and very possible scenario discussed is that they are planning to bomb Gaddafis bunker...this will hinder the people and not Gaddafi as all his air fleet have defected!!
I don't think you have to worry about that Muh. Allied planes will do it soon, so he cannot give anymore orders. Besides, they will have better planes and better bombs. The Libyan air force should just stay on the ground and drink iced tea. Or. here's an idea, the allied planes could escort them on their bombing runs and provide air protection.
NO I do not liek the Idea forgein forces bombs him..this is a Libyan revolution and forgeiners should stay out!
The thing the world should do is condemn him, freeze his assets and send medical and food supplys...thats it!!
Merceneries wether on Gaddafis or peoples side is not good!
I dont see the UK and US forces would be on anyones side, people or Gadaffi. I think the gameplan is purely to get people out and secure regional security interests.

Am gonna have to agree to disagree with you on that Muh, Gaddaffi being in power this long and having these kind of weapons is at least party our responsibility, it's a mess would should be helping to clean up, I don't think we intend on putting boots on the ground and occupying the place I think the intent is to clear the way for the protesters to do their thing without having to worry about being shot at or bombed anymore. Enough innocents have died.

Not a surprising plan to be honest, but obviously Muja worry is that it turns into another Iraq type situation.

Must agree with Janey Muh. I believe this is a rescue operation to get foreigners out. Not a battle plan to get involved in Libyan politics.

Rumor that Ghadaffi has been shot is sending markets soaring. No confirmation yet.

yes we totally mishandled Iraq. From my knowledge there is no plan to mount any sort of invasion of Libya or any followup occupation. It is purely get people out and deal with any threats

Yes, this is not Egypt we're talking about. There could be massive destabilization, and slaughter among the tribal factions. My hope is that they will show solidarity, but there is the chance that all hell could break loose with chemical weapons or worse. An intervention of some kind is warranted, in my opinion.

the plan is to leave Libya to the Libyan people and only help politically if asked. Its not a background invasion or anything like that. However, there is a real need to rescue people

"man if it's packed to capacity they need to just get the heck out of there quick before some whackjob mercs decide to shoot at them"
This is not good! Who owns the ferry?
Are these people being held as hostages to force the US to participate in air coverage over Libya?

no, the seas are really heavy there and the US govt hired a catamaran rather than a regular ferry. They are very unstable in those heavy seas and it was thought unsafe to let her sail.

I think the problem will come if the rescuing goes wrong (cf. the "Black Hawk Down" incident), which is possible in areas still loyal to Gaddafi (Tripoli specifically).

Libya turning into Somalia would be intolerable. Too bad there's no model for how to fix such broken countries.

Now they sending SMS to us in Tripoli with a fatwa against watching Al Jazeera & other media channels:)
AP just broke, If confirmed, that Gaddafi's cousin & personal rep has defected, then.. it is big news #libya #feb17
#Libyan demonstrators are now in full control of vital oil terminals in the port cities of #RasLanuf and #MarsaElBrega. #Feb17
Interesting RT @Reuters FLASH: U.S. government has no reason to believe that Gaddafi is dead -official #Libya #Feb17

be careful on that, the "liberated" areas are just as hostile to us. It is not all roses over there. Gangs are roaming the streets and civil fighting is happening between groups. This is why the military believe that even if Gadaffi is toppled the civil war will continue. There are lots and lots of factions doing their thing now, all of them not friendly to the west at this time.

The #Tebou (or Toubou) people in southern #Libya are the tribe of Chad's president, and #Chad is supporting #Gaddafi. #Feb17 needs outreach
News about heavy gunfire around AlJamahireya TV Channel's headquarters. #Libya #Gaddafi
I take it Osama Bin Laden doesn't have access to #Aljazeera in his bunker? Since we haven't had his reply to #Gaddafi yet... #Libya

Al Jazeera: Major in Libyan air force tells Libyan pilots to land in Misurata airport following its capture by protesters less than 10 seconds ago via Twitter for iPhone
On a map, that looks like about 100 to 120 miles (maybe 150 km) east of Tripoli on the coast
